Baked Chicken Wings

  • Author: The Prestons

  • Cook Time: 45 minutes
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: Serves 4

Ingredients

  • Chicken Wings: 2 lbs, split into flats and drumettes
  • Olive Oil: 2 tablespoons, helps the seasoning stick and crisps up the skin
  • Baking Powder: 1 tablespoon, for extra crispy skin
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon, enhances flavor
  • Black Pepper: 1/2 teaspoon, adds a bit of spice
  • Garlic Powder: 1 teaspoon, for savory depth
  • Paprika: 1 teaspoon, adds color and a smoky flavor
  • Onion Powder: 1/2 teaspoon, for an aromatic touch
  • Optional: Your favorite wing sauce (e.g., buffalo, barbecue, honey garlic)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top.

  • Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture—this helps them get crispy.

  • Season the Wings: In a large bowl, toss the wings with olive oil. In a small bowl, mix the baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and onion powder. Sprinkle the seasoning mix over the wings and toss until evenly coated.

  • Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the wings in a single layer on the wire rack. Make sure they are not touching to allow even airflow.

  • Bake: Bake the wings for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

  • Add Sauce (Optional): If using a sauce, toss the baked wings in your favorite wing sauce while they’re still hot.

  • Serve: Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or alongside celery and carrot sticks.

Notes

  • For Extra Crispiness: Ensure the wings are as dry as possible before seasoning.
  • Baking Powder Tip: Make sure you use baking powder, not baking soda! It makes a big difference in texture.
  • Adjusting Spice: You can add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to increase the heat.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
