Powdered sugar, maple syrup, and fresh berries for serving
Instructions
1. Prepare the Egg Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
2. Soak the Sourdough Bread:
Dip each slice of sourdough bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds on each side. Ensure the bread is well coated but not overly soggy.
3. Preheat the Skillet:
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of butter and let it melt until slightly bubbly.
4. Cook the French Toast:
Place the soaked sourdough bread onto the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the skillet; cook in batches if necessary.
5. Serve:
Transfer the cooked French toast to a serving plate. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, drizzle with maple syrup, and add fresh berries if desired.
Notes
For Extra Flavor: Add a splash of orange juice or a pinch of orange zest to the egg mixture for a citrus twist.
Make Ahead Option: Prepare the egg mixture the night before to save time in the morning.
Storage: Store leftover French toast in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet or toaster for the best results.
