Original Pigs In A Blanket Recipe

Ingredients
  

For the Pigs in a Blanket:

  • 1 package 8 oz mini sausages or cocktail wieners
  • 1 can 8 oz refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 tbsp melted butter optional
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional toppings: sesame seeds poppy seeds, or everything bagel seasoning

For Serving (Optional):

  • Ketchup mustard, or your favorite dipping sauces

Instructions
 

Prepare for Baking:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

2. Roll and Wrap:

  • Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.
  • Cut each triangle into 3 smaller strips to fit the mini sausages.
  • Place a mini sausage at the wide end of each dough strip.
  • Roll up the sausage towards the tip of the dough, wrapping it snugly but not too tight.
  • Place each wrapped sausage seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

3. Add a Golden Finish:

  • Brush the tops with melted butter or egg wash for a golden, crispy finish.
  • Sprinkle with optional toppings like sesame seeds or poppy seeds for extra flavor.

4. Bake to Perfection:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and crispy.
  • Allow them to cool for a couple of minutes before serving.

5. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

For an extra cheesy twist, add a small slice of cheddar or mozzarella inside each sausage before wrapping it in dough. To make ahead of time, assemble the pigs in a blanket and freeze them unbaked. When ready to serve, bake directly from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to the cook time.
